Indonesia has successfully completed its first-ever Panda Bond issuance, raising 7 billion yuan (approximately IDR 18.5 trillion) from investors in China's onshore market.
The deal, executed by the Ministry of Finance's Debt Management Office, represents a significant milestone in the country's sovereign debt strategy, moving beyond its traditional reliance on offshore dollar-denominated bonds.
The issuance was oversubscribed, prompting authorities to delay the launch from early July to the end of the month to manage the unexpectedly strong demand from Chinese institutional investors.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed the successful completion, highlighting the robust appetite for Indonesian sovereign debt within the mainland market.
This demand underscores the growing integration of emerging market issuers into China's domestic bond ecosystem.
For traders and investors, the move signals a deliberate effort by Jakarta to diversify its funding sources and reduce exposure to fluctuations in the US dollar and offshore interest rates.
