The Indonesian rupiah opened slightly weaker against the US dollar on Friday, trading at Rp17,935 per dollar.
The currency slipped 12 points, or 0.07 percent, from its previous close, marking a minor reversal from recent trading levels.
This slight depreciation follows a session on Wednesday when the rupiah had strengthened modestly to close at Rp18,073.
That earlier gain had reflected a broader trend of cautious optimism among emerging-market investors positioning themselves amid supportive global macro conditions.
The current softening suggests that buying interest has cooled slightly in the early hours of the week.
The move is contained and does not signal a sharp break in trend, but it highlights the sensitivity of the currency to short-term flows.
