South Korea’s benchmark Kospi index opened 4.46% lower on Wednesday, marking a steep decline for the Asian market.

The sharp drop followed a session of heavy selling on Wall Street, where technology stocks led losses amid shifting risk sentiment.

While global equities had previously rallied on optimism surrounding a potential deal to ease shipping tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Korean tech shares failed to sustain the momentum, dragging the broader index into significant negative territory.

The divergence highlights the fragility of the recent risk-on rally.

Although the prospect of stabilized shipping routes in the Hormuz corridor provided a tailwind for energy and logistics sectors, it was insufficient to offset the pressure on high-growth technology names.

Investors appear to be prioritizing near-term earnings visibility and valuation concerns over geopolitical relief, leading to a pronounced rotation out of tech-heavy portfolios.
