Portugal’s energy regulator, ERSE, has updated its weekly efficient price benchmark for motor fuels, showing a decline for gasoline and an increase for diesel.
The new reference level sets gasoline at €1.993 per liter, down from the previous week’s €1.986, while diesel rises to €2.121 per liter, up from €2.009.
The efficient price is a regulatory calculation intended to reflect the underlying cost of supplying fuel, including taxes and margins, but it does not dictate what consumers pay at the pump.
ERSE explicitly states that the figure is neither a regulated price, a maximum cap, nor a recommended rate.
Retail fuel prices in Portugal are freely defined by each market operator, meaning the benchmark serves primarily as a transparency tool for tracking cost trends rather than a direct control mechanism.
The divergence between gasoline and diesel benchmarks highlights shifting input costs or tax adjustments within the supply chain.
While gasoline costs have softened slightly, diesel prices are facing upward pressure.
