The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group has urged President Bola Tinubu to institutionalise a quarterly leadership summit for governors, local government chairmen and political appointees to strengthen policy coordination and accelerate grassroots development across the country. The group's Convener, Bamidele Atoyebi, made the call in a statement on Thursday, saying the initiative, alongside a monthly policy focus, would ensure that all tiers of government worked towards clearly defined national priorities and translated increased public spending into measurable benefits for Nigerians. Atoyebi said with the bold economic reforms and increased allocations to states and local governments, the country's major challenge was no longer the availability of funds. He said, "The greatest challenge facing the country is no longer the availability of resources but ensuring that every tier of government works with a shared vision and clearly defined priorities in governance and development." According to him, the administration had continued to address insecurity, economic challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidy and exchange rate reforms, infrastructure deficits and power sector issues while investing in strategic national projects. He listed some of the projects to include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Shagamu-Ijebu Ore-Benin and Ife-Ibadan road corridors, the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, rail and gas infrastructure, the implementation of the new national minimum wage, improved welfare for security personnel, the student loan scheme and the uninterrupted academic calendar in public universities. Despite these efforts, Atoyebi said many Nigerians were yet to experience the impact of the reforms because increased allocations to sub-national governments had not translated into visible development. He said the priorities could include rural road construction, primary healthcare revitalisation, agricultural productivity, youth empowerment, market development and support for small businesses, with governments across the federation expected to channel resources towards measurable outcomes. The BAT-IG convener also proposed a quarterly leadership empowerment summit involving the President, governors, ministers, local government chairmen and other key political appointees. According to him, the summit would provide a platform to review progress, share best practices, strengthen policy implementation and reinforce a common national agenda. Atoyebi said the proposed framework was modelled after leadership systems adopted by globally recognised institutions where regular engagement, shared objectives and continuous performance reviews ensured effective policy execution. He added that Tinubu had adopted a similar approach during his tenure as governor of Lagos State through regular engagements with cabinet members and local government leaders, which he said contributed to policy implementation and institutional reforms. He maintained that institutionalising the proposed meetings at the national level would enhance accountability, improve policy alignment, eliminate duplication of projects and ensure that increased public spending delivered tangible benefits to citizens. Atoyebi expressed confidence that the initiative would strengthen governance, deepen collaboration among the three tiers of government and accelerate the implementation of the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.
