Britain has cleared Paramount Global’s proposed US$110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros.
Discovery, marking a significant step forward for the mega-merger.
The UK government and its competition watchdog approved the deal on Thursday, following assurances provided by David Ellison, the head of Paramount’s parent company, Skydance Media.
The UK clearance removes one of the last major international regulatory hurdles for the transaction.
The European Union had previously approved the deal, and the United States Department of Justice has also cleared the acquisition at the federal level.
However, the path to closing is not yet complete, as US states led by California continue to challenge the merger.
