Wizz Air has reported a quarterly loss of €200 million, marking the most severe financial hit among major airlines to date as the sector grapples with persistently high jet fuel costs.

The Hungarian low-cost carrier's results highlight the acute vulnerability of budget models to energy price shocks, which are eroding margins across the industry.

The loss at Wizz Air follows a wave of deteriorating earnings reports from other major carriers.

Lufthansa Group recently disclosed a 56 percent drop in adjusted EBIT, while Korean Air Lines saw its second-quarter operating profit fall by 34 percent despite record revenue.

These figures illustrate that even high-volume operators are struggling to offset rising input costs through pricing power or efficiency gains.

The surge in fuel expenses is linked to broader geopolitical tensions, including the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has disrupted supply chains and kept energy prices elevated.
