The launch of Canada’s proposed global defence bank is facing fresh scrutiny over its operational mandate, with industry experts warning that the institution risks being under-equipped for the sector's most demanding challenges.
Andreas Urbanski, founder of defence advisory firm deepi.ai and former head of AI partnerships at Google Cloud, argued in a Globe and Mail commentary that the current framework is incomplete and requires significant expansion to be effective.
Urbanski, who also led digital platforms for Airbus Defence and Space, contends that the bank must broaden its mission to tackle the hardest challenges in defence financing.
His critique arrives as Ottawa continues to withhold the official roster of founding nations for the proposed institution.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand previously indicated that the list would remain confidential until the government secures broader international support for startup capital.
The delay in naming partners has fueled speculation about the bank's strategic direction.
