Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has indicated that the government is pursuing a comprehensive trade agreement with the United States, covering all economic sectors rather than focusing on isolated issues.
The comments come as the deadline for President Donald Trump’s proposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods approaches on August 19.
The prime minister emphasized that Ottawa is evaluating all options to mitigate the impact of the potential duties, which would significantly raise costs for Canadian exporters.
Carney stated on Thursday that it remains uncertain whether a deal will be finalized before the tariffs take effect.
"We'll see," he said, acknowledging the tight timeline and the complexity of the negotiations.
