Mozambique’s government has confirmed that the initial phase of the Mozambique LNG Academy will be hosted in the southern city of Matola, rejecting calls to locate the program in the resource-rich north.
Officials stated on Wednesday that the decision was driven by the need to guarantee suitable infrastructure and conditions for the timely training of 260 participants.
The move resolves a recent dispute over the academy’s location, which had raised concerns among stakeholders who argued that training should occur closer to the offshore gas fields in Cabo Delgado.
By selecting Matola, the government prioritizes immediate operational readiness and logistical stability over geographic proximity to the production sites.
The academy is a critical component of TotalEnergies’ broader localization strategy for its Mozambique LNG projects.
