At least 11 people have died and hundreds more were injured after severe tornadoes and storms struck central China's Hubei province on Tuesday, state media reported.

The extreme weather event, characterized by winds reaching 149 kph (93 mph), caused widespread infrastructure damage and overturned vehicles in the affected areas.

The fatalities and injuries occurred as heavy rainfall battered the region, prompting emergency services to mobilize for rescue and recovery operations.

Earlier reports from the same cluster indicated at least eight deaths, but the death toll has risen as authorities assess the full extent of the devastation in Hubei.

The storms represent a significant natural disaster event for the province, disrupting local economic activity and straining emergency resources.

While the immediate impact is humanitarian, the infrastructure damage may have downstream effects on local supply chains and logistics in the central region.
