The Brazilian federal government has delayed the submission of a key legislative package aimed at expanding the Microempreendedor Individual (MEI) program.
The bill, which was scheduled to be sent to Congress on Wednesday, June 24, has been put on hold following a political impasse with the Chamber of Deputies.
The proposed legislation sought to increase the annual revenue ceiling for individual micro-entrepreneurs, a move intended to formalize more small businesses and broaden the tax base.
However, negotiations between the executive branch and lawmakers broke down, preventing the bill from reaching the floor as planned.
Hugo Motta, president of the Chamber of Deputies, had previously confirmed the expected delivery date.
The delay signals ongoing friction between the government and the legislature over economic policy priorities.
