China has imposed sanctions on dozens of US companies, including major defense contractors Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and General Dynamics, in a sharp escalation of economic tensions between the two nations.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced the measures on Monday, citing the US Department of Defense's recent publication of a new blacklist targeting Chinese firms such as Alibaba and BYD for alleged military ties.

The move marks a significant broadening of Beijing's sanctions regime against American businesses.

According to Handelsavisen's archive analysis, the total number of targeted US firms has now reached 56.

This latest wave specifically targets the defense sector and rare-earth industries, signaling a direct retaliatory response to what Beijing termed an "inadmissible act" by Washington.

The timing of the sanctions is particularly notable, arriving just one month after President Donald Trump's visit to Beijing, which was intended to foster détente between the world's two largest economies.
