Greece is developing long-term natural gas supply arrangements with at least six countries in Southeast Europe, according to reports from Proto Thema and PBS NewsHour.

The deals are being structured through the Vertical Corridor, a key infrastructure project designed to transport gas from the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) into the Balkans.

This expansion marks a significant step in diversifying energy sources for the region, reducing reliance on traditional supply routes.

The move comes as Europe continues to grapple with energy insecurity, accelerating diplomatic and commercial efforts to revive competing natural gas pipeline projects across North Africa and the Balkans.

Greece’s strategic position as a transit hub is becoming increasingly valuable, with the Vertical Corridor serving as a critical link in the broader European energy network.

The new agreements are expected to enhance energy security for participating countries while providing Greece with a stable revenue stream from transit fees.
