Greece has formally joined the Pax Silica initiative, a US-led coalition focused on securing supply chains for artificial intelligence semiconductors and critical minerals.
The declaration was signed Tuesday at the U.S. State Department by Greek Ambassador to Washington Antonis Alexandridis and U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Jacob Helbe.
The move signals Athens’ deeper integration into Western technology alliances, positioning the country as a partner in efforts to diversify semiconductor production and mineral sourcing away from geopolitical rivals.
While the pact is primarily diplomatic, it underscores the strategic importance of the sector to European economies seeking to bolster domestic tech infrastructure.
The announcement comes amid heightened volatility in the semiconductor sector.
Semiconductor stocks have recently tumbled on fears of an AI “chipwreck” and concerns over potential rate hikes, according to recent market coverage.
