India’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States are on track to surpass 1 million metric tons in June, setting a new record for the bilateral trade flow.

The surge comes as persistent supply disruptions in the Middle East force Asian buyers to seek alternative sources, with the Strait of Hormuz blockade now approaching its 12th month.

The shift underscores a structural change in global energy trade patterns.

With traditional supply routes from the Persian Gulf compromised, India has accelerated its pivot toward US LNG cargoes.

This reallocation of demand provides a floor for US export volumes and supports pricing in the Atlantic basin, even as global supply remains tight.

Industry sources indicate the record import level reflects both immediate necessity and longer-term strategic diversification.
