Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a stern warning to international shipping operators, insisting that vessels must not attempt to bypass the country’s designated route through the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi stated on Sunday that any effort to adopt alternative arrangements would only lead to more complicated situations and increase tensions in the Middle East.
The remarks come as US and Iranian forces continue to trade attacks in the region, underscoring Tehran’s determination to maintain control over the critical waterway despite escalating military friction.
The Strait of Hormuz remains the world’s most important oil transit chokepoint, with roughly a fifth of global petroleum supplies passing through it daily.
Iran’s insistence on a single, controlled route introduces significant operational risk for shipping companies and energy traders.
Any attempt to enforce this routing could lead to delays, increased insurance premiums, or direct confrontations with naval forces, potentially disrupting the steady flow of crude and liquefied natural gas to global markets.
