An explosion at a gas processing facility in Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial zone has killed at least 13 people and injured more than 60 others, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred at the Barzan local gas supply facility, a critical node within the country’s vast energy infrastructure complex.
Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi confirmed the casualty figures, underscoring the severity of the blast that disrupted operations at one of the world’s most significant energy hubs.
The accident has triggered immediate concern among traders monitoring global liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chains.
Ras Laffan is home to QatarEnergy’s major LNG export terminals, and any disruption to local gas supply infrastructure can have cascading effects on production schedules.
While the extent of operational damage remains unclear, the incident introduces a new variable into an already tight global gas market, where supply reliability is paramount.
