A massive explosion and fire erupted at Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday evening, triggering immediate concerns over potential supply disruptions in the global liquefied natural gas market.
Authorities have attributed the incident to a technical malfunction at a local gas processing facility, ruling out any external attack.
The blast resulted in several injuries, according to the country's interior ministry.
Ras Laffan is the heart of Qatar’s energy infrastructure, housing critical LNG export terminals and processing plants.
Any operational downtime at this hub could tighten global LNG supplies, particularly for Asian and European buyers who rely heavily on Qatari cargoes.
The incident comes at a time when energy markets are already sensitive to geopolitical risks and supply chain vulnerabilities.
