Romania's political deadlock intensified on Monday as AUR leader George Simion met with designated Prime Minister Adrian Veștea shortly before the parliamentary vote on the new government.

Following the discussion, Simion declared that his party does not hold a mandate to support the cabinet, casting doubt on the administration's ability to secure a majority.

The meeting took place at the AUR headquarters, underscoring the fragile nature of the coalition negotiations.

Simion's refusal to endorse the government adds another layer of uncertainty to the investment process, which has already been marred by internal party dissent and external accusations.

Tensions within the political landscape have escalated in recent days.

Petrișor Peiu, leader of the AUR Senate group, previously threatened to withdraw from public life if his party voted in favor of Veștea's government.
