The political standoff in Romania has intensified as Liberal senator Daniel Fenechiu accused the far-right AUR party of forming a de facto coalition with the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

Fenechiu stated that AUR has shifted its position to align with PSD and the Veștea government in the Joint Permanent Bureaus, signaling a likely similar stance during the upcoming investiture vote.

Peiu had previously emphasized that AUR would not enter conflicts between Romanian parties, suggesting a neutral stance to avoid long-term losses.

This development marks a significant shift in the parliamentary dynamics surrounding the Veștea cabinet.

Earlier reports indicated that AUR senator leader Petrișor Peiu had rejected pressure from President Nicușor Dan and PSD to support the government, warning that such alignment could lead to party collapse.

Peiu had previously emphasized that AUR would not enter conflicts between Romanian parties, suggesting a neutral stance to avoid long-term losses.

Fenechiu’s comments suggest that despite earlier resistance, AUR is now pragmatically cooperating with PSD to ensure the government’s passage.
