TotalEnergies is planning to install a 71-megawatt solar power plant as part of its massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) development in Mozambique.

The addition of renewable energy infrastructure marks a strategic pivot for the French energy major, which recently restarted the roughly $20 billion project after a four-year hiatus caused by insurgency in the country's Cabo Delgado province.

The solar component is designed to support the operational needs of the LNG facility, reducing reliance on diesel generators and lowering the carbon intensity of the production process.

This move aligns with broader industry trends where major oil and gas companies are integrating renewable energy sources to meet sustainability targets and improve operational efficiency in remote locations.

The restart of the Mozambique LNG project is a significant development for global gas markets, which have been grappling with supply uncertainties.

The project, long viewed as a cornerstone of Mozambique's energy ambitions, had been suspended since 2021 due to security concerns.
