A major oil refinery in southern Russia has been set ablaze following a heavy drone assault by Ukraine, Russian authorities confirmed on Sunday.

The attack on the facility in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, located in the Krasnodar region, resulted in at least two fatalities and marks a significant escalation in Kyiv’s targeting of Moscow’s energy infrastructure.

Debris from downed drones sparked the blaze, disrupting operations at a key processing hub.

President Vladimir Putin acknowledged the strain on the country, describing the current phase of the conflict as a "difficult period" as his administration grapples with the intensifying aerial campaign.

The strike highlights the vulnerability of Russian energy assets to long-range drone attacks, a tactic Ukraine has increasingly employed to pressure Moscow’s war economy and export revenues.

For global markets, the incident reinforces the persistent supply-side risks embedded in Russian crude output.
