The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in West Bengal has presented its first full budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, outlining a significant expansion in public sector employment and employee benefits.

Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta tabled the proposal in the state assembly on Monday, marking a pivotal moment for the new administration as it seeks to establish its economic agenda.

The budget allocates ₹36,000 crore to the Annapurna Yojana, a major food security initiative, signaling a continued emphasis on welfare spending.

Additionally, ₹14,000 crore has been earmarked for the GRAMG scheme, further underscoring the government's focus on rural development and social support structures.

These allocations represent a substantial commitment to maintaining social stability through direct benefit transfers.

In a move aimed at addressing unemployment and boosting public sector presence, the government announced plans to fill 1 lakh vacancies in government jobs.
