Albania’s parliament convened for a plenary session on Thursday, but legislative work was immediately stalled as the opposition Democratic Party (PD) boycotted the proceedings.

The boycott comes as the party refuses to participate in any parliamentary business until its core demands are addressed, specifically the repeal of the controversial strategic investment law and the so-called "Mountain Package."

Tensions spilled outside the parliament building, where demonstrators clashed with police forces.

Reports indicate moments of high tension and physical confrontations between protesters and law enforcement, highlighting the volatility of the current political climate.

The opposition has condemned the ruling majority's approach, stating that the government is ignoring the will of the protesters.

The Democratic Party has outlined four key legislative initiatives it demands be discussed: the repeal of the strategic investment law, the abolition of the Mountain Package, the repeal of certain provisions in the cultural heritage law, and other related measures.

The party argues that these laws undermine local governance and cultural preservation, fueling widespread public discontent.
