Avenue Supermarts, the operator of India’s D-Mart discount chain, reported an 11.3% year-on-year increase in first-quarter net profit to ₹860.44 crore.

The Mumbai-based retailer also posted a 14.9% rise in sales, reflecting steady demand for its value-oriented merchandise mix.

The results were supported by the addition of three new stores during the quarter, bringing the company’s total store count to 503.

This measured expansion strategy continues to prioritize operational efficiency and same-store sales growth over rapid footprint scaling.

The performance highlights the resilience of India’s organized retail sector, where discounters are gaining share from traditional unorganized markets.

Avenue Supermarts’ ability to maintain double-digit profit growth while adding stores suggests strong underlying unit economics and customer loyalty.
