Neelkanth Mishra, Executive Director and Chief Economist at Axis Bank, has stated that fears of widespread job losses in India's information technology sector due to artificial intelligence are misplaced.

Mishra argues that the primary impact of AI will be a structural shift requiring significant reskilling of the workforce and a rethinking of business strategies, rather than a net reduction in employment.

He projects that services exports will continue to grow strongly despite these industry transformations.

The comments come as global markets grapple with the dual narrative of AI as both a productivity booster and a potential disruptor of labor markets.

While recent research from Irish business group Ibec suggested that nearly two-thirds of jobs may require significant reskilling, Mishra's assessment offers a more optimistic outlook for the Indian IT sector, which remains a critical component of the country's services export engine.

His view suggests that the sector's adaptability and scale will allow it to absorb technological changes without severe contraction.
