Chattogram Port, Bangladesh’s primary maritime gateway, has reported record-breaking performance across all key operational metrics for the fiscal year ending June 2026.
The port authority announced that total revenue climbed to Tk 6,629 crore (approximately $590 million), a significant jump from Tk 5,366 crore in the previous fiscal year.
The surge was driven by historic highs in container handling, general cargo throughput, and vessel arrivals, indicating robust trade activity through the Bay of Bengal despite wider regional uncertainties.
The results stand in contrast to the volatility seen in other major global chokepoints.
While commodity carrier traffic through the Strait of Hormuz recently hit record levels amid ongoing conflict, with at least 36 vessels transiting in a single day, South Asian trade routes appear to be maintaining steady momentum.
The Chattogram figures suggest that regional demand and logistical efficiency are offsetting some of the friction caused by geopolitical tensions elsewhere.
