Russia has secured the backing of its Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) partners in its criticism of Armenia’s growing ties with the European Union.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated on Thursday that Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan share Moscow’s concern that Yerevan’s policy of rapprochement with Brussels is fundamentally incompatible with its obligations within the EAEU.

The declaration marks a significant escalation in the diplomatic pressure on Armenia, which has increasingly sought to diversify its foreign policy away from Moscow amid regional security challenges.

By framing the issue as a collective EAEU concern rather than a bilateral dispute, Russia aims to isolate Armenia within the customs union and reinforce the bloc’s political cohesion against external influence.

This diplomatic maneuver follows Russia’s imposition of a comprehensive import ban on Armenian goods earlier this year.

Handelsavisen previously reported that the trade restrictions target key export sectors, cutting off access to Moscow’s market and inflicting significant damage on Yerevan’s economy.
