Construction of the natural gas interconnector between Greece and North Macedonia is proceeding on schedule for completion next year, officials confirmed following high-level talks in Athens.

The project aims to enhance energy security and diversify supply routes for the Balkan region.

The discussions were led by Maria Sferruzza, CEO of Greece’s gas transmission system operator DESFA, alongside North Macedonia’s Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Minister Sanja Bozinovska and Nedim Rama, CEO of NOMAGAS.

The trio reviewed progress on the infrastructure, which is critical for integrating regional gas markets.

This development aligns with broader efforts by Greece to solidify its role as an energy hub for Southeast Europe.

Athens has been actively pursuing long-term supply agreements with multiple countries in the region to reduce dependency on single sources and improve resilience against supply shocks.
