Gujarat is launching a ₹190 crore ($22.7 million) semiconductor training hub at IIT Gandhinagar, targeting the development of 10,000 skilled professionals over the next five years.
The initiative marks a strategic pivot from infrastructure development to human capital formation as the Indian state solidifies its position as the country’s primary semiconductor manufacturing hub.
The program is designed to address the acute shortage of specialized talent in the chip sector.
According to Hindu Businessline, the hub will train 5,600 undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students, alongside 1,500 technicians, 1,000 certificate program participants, and 230 faculty members.
This structured approach aims to create a ready-made workforce for the expanding ecosystem of fabs and material suppliers setting up shop in the region.
The move complements recent industrial commitments in Gujarat, including Fujifilm India’s memorandum of understanding with the Gujarat State Electronics Mission to explore a semiconductor materials production base in Dholera.
