In a statement on Wednesday, the police said the arrest was made following an intelligence led operation on Tuesday.

"Acting on information received, police ranks conducted an operation during which a 36-year-old businessman of Alexander Village, Georgetown, allegedly made arrangements and handed over a quantity of cash as part payment to have a male kidnapped," police said.

After being placed in custody, a quantity of cash was lodged as the investigations continue.
