( Kaieteur News ) – The 36-year-old businessman was arrested for attempting a kidnapping was granted bail on Friday after he appeared in court.

The defendant has been identified as Avishkar Singh of Alexander Village, Greater Georgetown.

Kaieteur News reported on Wednesday that the businessman was nabbed in an intelligence-led operation.

He was charged with the attempted kidnapping and appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate Court before Magistrate Faith McGusty.

"Acting on information received, police ranks conducted an operation during which a 36-year-old businessman of Alexander Village, Georgetown, allegedly made arrangements and handed over a quantity of cash as part payment to have a male kidnapped," police said.

After being placed in custody, a quantity of cash was lodged as the investigations continue.
