The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency have arrested eight Palestinians in the West Bank, accusing them of chasing and assaulting Israeli civilians during an incident on Thursday.

The operation was carried out by the IDF's Duvdevan unit, acting on intelligence provided by the Shin Bet.

In a separate development, Israeli police arrested a resident of the West Bank town of Tarqumiyah.

The suspect is believed to be involved in the criminally motivated kidnapping of an IDF soldier.

These arrests come as security forces intensify operations in the region following a series of violent incidents.

The detentions occur against a backdrop of heightened friction in the West Bank.
