India has published the administrative procedure for importers to access quota-based tariff concessions on vehicle imports under its free trade agreement with the United Kingdom.

The new framework, which takes effect on July 15, establishes the mechanism for seeking government approval to utilize duty-free or reduced-duty quotas for passenger cars and goods vehicles.

The move operationalizes a key component of the India-UK trade pact, moving the agreement from negotiation to implementation for the automotive sector.

By defining the claim process, New Delhi is enabling importers to calculate landed costs more accurately and plan inventory strategies around the available quota volumes.

This reduces uncertainty for foreign automakers and distributors looking to enter or expand within the Indian market through the UK trade channel.

This development aligns with India’s broader strategy to secure competitive tariff advantages in its international trade negotiations.
