Iran and Oman have agreed to continue political and technical negotiations focused on security in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

The decision follows a recent visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Muscat, where discussions centered on ensuring safe passage through the critical waterway under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The diplomatic move comes as shipping risk in the region remains elevated.

Iranian military officials recently vowed unilateral control of the Strait, a stance that has heightened concerns among global energy traders and shipping operators regarding potential disruptions to oil flows.

The Strait of Hormuz serves as a vital chokepoint for global energy supplies, with a significant portion of the world's seaborne oil passing through its narrow waters daily.

Handelsavisen notes that while the resumption of talks signals a potential de-escalation pathway, the underlying geopolitical pressure on trade routes persists.
