Mozambique has reinstated military escorts along National Road 380, a critical artery connecting the locality of Silva Macua in the Ancuabe district to the village of Macomia.

The decision aims to secure transport routes that have previously been targeted by Islamist terrorist groups operating in the region.

The violence previously forced the suspension of major energy infrastructure projects, including the roughly $20 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) development led by TotalEnergies.

The resumption of escorts marks a tangible step in stabilizing the security environment in Cabo Delgado, a province that has been the epicenter of an insurgency since 2017.

The violence previously forced the suspension of major energy infrastructure projects, including the roughly $20 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) development led by TotalEnergies.

TotalEnergies officially restarted its LNG project earlier this year, signaling a return to normalcy for the region’s energy sector.

The renewed military presence on key roads is likely to support the logistical requirements of this restart, ensuring that supply chains and personnel movements are less vulnerable to disruption.
