The Nigerian federal government has launched the South-East phase of the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme (FISP), marking a geographic expansion of its agricultural subsidy efforts.

The initiative commences with the distribution of 80,640 units of fertiliser to farmers in the region, aiming to bolster local food production and support smallholder incomes.

This development follows the Bank of Agriculture’s earlier nationwide rollout, which has already delivered fertilisers, maize seeds, and crop protection products to approximately 500,000 smallholder farmers.

The South-East distribution represents a targeted effort to ensure regional equity in access to critical agricultural inputs, which are often constrained by supply chain bottlenecks and high costs.

The programme is part of a broader government strategy to enhance domestic food security and reduce reliance on imports.

In parallel, authorities have also initiated the distribution of one million improved hybrid cocoa seedlings nationwide, targeting long-standing productivity declines in the cocoa sector.
