Nigeria has officially opened a lithium processing facility in Nasarawa State, described by the Federal Government as the largest of its kind in West Africa.

The plant, inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu, has a daily processing capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes.

The development represents a significant step in the country's efforts to move beyond raw material extraction toward domestic industrial processing of critical minerals.

The facility is part of a broader regional strategy to retain more economic value within Africa.

By refining lithium and producing battery precursors locally, the project aims to shift income, technology, and skilled employment opportunities onto the continent.

This aligns with growing investor and policy focus on securing ethical and diversified supply chains for the global electric vehicle and energy storage markets.
