Russia is preparing to launch a commercial logistics hub at the port of Tartous in Syria by mid-July, according to Syrian officials.
The facility will operate out of one of two berths at the naval base leased by Moscow, while the second berth will continue to support military operations.
Initial cargo volumes are targeted at approximately 250,000 tons per month, with wheat and grains among the primary commodities to be handled.
The development signals a strategic shift for the Kremlin, which has long maintained a military presence in Tartous.
By integrating commercial logistics into the leased facility, Russia seeks to consolidate its economic influence in the region and diversify the utility of its Mediterranean foothold.
The hub is expected to facilitate the export of Russian agricultural products, potentially altering trade flows in the Eastern Mediterranean.
