A senior Russian lawmaker has alleged that Ukraine’s European neighbors are waiting for Kyiv’s collapse in order to reclaim territories they once controlled.

Viktor Vodolatsky, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, made the remarks in a statement published by TASS on Tuesday.

Handelsavisen previously reported that Ukraine is accelerating its path toward EU membership, with expectations of a record-fast accession process.

Vodolatsky claimed that despite sitting at the same negotiating tables, these nations harbor hidden agendas to carve up Ukrainian territory for their own benefit.

The comments reflect a persistent Kremlin narrative designed to sow discord among Western allies and undermine confidence in Ukraine’s geopolitical trajectory.

The assertion stands in direct contrast to recent diplomatic developments.
