The West Indies won the field but lost in their pockets as they have been hit with a hefty fine for a slow over-rate following the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
The ICC announced on Wednesday that each team member will pay ten per cent of his match fee (approximately BDS$900). The team was also hit a significant blow to their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) campaign as they have been docked two points on the table.
According to ICC, Match Referee Javagal Srinath of the imposed the sanction after the home side was found to be two overs short of the required target, even after time allowances were taken into consideration.
The second Test ended in a high scoring draw on Tuesday. West Indies won the series 1-0 after their huge win by an innings and 217 runs at the same venue. It was their first series of in over Sri Lanka in 23 years.
West Indies remain in eighth position on the ongoing WTC standings with 16.67 PCT points. They are one spot above Pakistan on 8.33PTC. The two teams will meet in a two-match series in Trinidad later this month.
