The spread between Argentina's official exchange rate and the parallel 'blue' dollar has narrowed significantly, with the informal market trading at a minimal premium on Thursday.

The official rate was quoted at 1,495 pesos for sale, while the blue dollar closed at 1,530 pesos, according to local market data from Clarín.

This tight differential suggests that arbitrage opportunities are limited and that market participants are not aggressively seeking alternative channels to acquire foreign currency.

The convergence of these rates comes as the US dollar index reached its highest level since May 2025, strengthening broadly against a basket of major currencies.

Despite this global headwind, the Argentine peso has shown relative resilience in the parallel market, avoiding the sharp devaluations often seen in emerging markets during periods of greenback strength.

The narrow premium indicates that capital controls may be holding firm or that demand for dollars in the informal sector has cooled.
