Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote is moving to build a new port and a 2,000-megawatt power plant in Tanzania, according to a report by Nairametrics.
The development marks a significant expansion of Dangote Group's infrastructure footprint in East Africa, adding energy generation and maritime logistics capabilities to its existing operations.
The move comes as East African nations advance plans for a joint oil refinery with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, with Dangote positioned as the likely builder.
The new Tanzania projects would complement the refinery initiative by securing dedicated port access and power supply, critical components for large-scale energy infrastructure in the region.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recently denied reports that fuel products from its facility are being exported to Togo and re-imported into Nigeria, highlighting the company's focus on domestic supply stability.
