Two tankers operated by Nordic American Tankers have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, according to company chief executive Herbjørn Hansson.
The confirmation provides a rare data point on commercial traffic in one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, which has seen volumes plummet amid escalating geopolitical tensions.
Hansson’s statement comes after Iran announced it had closed the strategic waterway, causing commercial vessel traffic to drop sharply to just five ships on Sunday.
The Norwegian shipping firm’s ability to move vessels through the strait suggests that while the threat of closure is severe, actual blockades may be intermittent or selectively enforced, at least for now.
The development arrives as global markets remain on edge regarding oil supply disruptions.
Earlier reports indicated that oil prices had retreated slightly following signs of diplomatic progress between the US and Iran, but the physical reality of shipping through the strait remains the ultimate test of those talks.
