A Russian drone has struck the Victress, a Turkish-owned dry cargo vessel sailing under the Panamanian flag, in the Black Sea.
The Ukrainian navy confirmed the incident on Monday, reporting that the attack caused a major fire aboard the ship.
While all nine crew members—nationals of Egypt, Turkey, and India—were rescued, the navy stated that there were casualties among the crew.
The incident marks a direct escalation in the targeting of commercial shipping in the region.
The Victress was operating in waters that have become increasingly hazardous due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The attack highlights the vulnerability of neutral-flagged vessels to military strikes, raising concerns among international shipping operators about the safety of Black Sea routes.
