Spain’s private shipbuilding sector has consolidated its position as Europe’s leading naval hub, with the industry’s order book surpassing €3 billion.
The milestone was highlighted during the annual general meeting of Pymar, the association of private shipyards, which gathered top industry executives and government officials to review the sector’s record activity levels.
Jordi Hereu, Spain’s minister for industry, trade, and enterprise, used the forum to underscore the strategic importance of the sector.
He cited Pymar as a model for reindustrialization not only for Spain but for the wider European Union, linking the shipbuilding boom to broader efforts to rebuild domestic manufacturing capacity.
The surge in orders reflects a broader trend of robust demand across global shipping and defense segments.
While container shipping giants like Maersk have recently raised profit estimates due to strong booking volumes, the capital expenditure cycle for new vessels is driving significant activity in European yards.
