Taiwan has commenced a five-day series of combat readiness exercises, its defense ministry confirmed on Monday.
The drills, designated as an “Immediate Combat Readiness Exercise,” are designed to test and speed up the military’s ability to shift to a wartime footing.
Officials stated that sustained air and naval operations by the Chinese mainland mean the island’s armed forces will have less time to respond to a crisis, necessitating faster mobilization protocols.
The exercises focus on evaluating the effectiveness of joint operations across Taiwan’s armed forces.
This comes at a time of heightened military pressure from Beijing, with increasingly frequent PLA activities in the region.
The drills aim to ensure that command structures and logistical chains can function under compressed timelines, reflecting a strategic shift toward rapid response capabilities.
