Abia State Governor Alex Otti has given the green light to a $13.1 million Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) investment, framing the project as a catalyst for local industrialisation and clean energy expansion.
The endorsement positions the state as a growing hub for alternative fuel infrastructure in Nigeria’s south-east region.
The move aligns with Governor Otti’s broader strategy to attract foreign direct investment and diversify the state’s economic base.
Recent reports indicate the administration has also supported an Egyptian pharmaceutical firm, Utopia, in establishing a drug manufacturing plant in Abia, underscoring a consistent push toward industrial development across multiple sectors.
While the $13.1 million figure is modest compared to national energy infrastructure budgets, the project represents a targeted effort to reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels and lower operational costs for local industries.
CNG adoption is gaining traction in Nigeria as a cleaner, more cost-effective alternative to petrol and diesel for transportation and power generation.
