Abu Dhabi-based Edge Group has agreed to acquire Brazilian defence contractor Akaer, marking a strategic expansion into the South American market and strengthening its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capabilities.

The transaction positions the UAE firm to leverage Akaer’s established presence in Brazil, a key hub for aerospace and defence manufacturing in Latin America.

The acquisition aligns with Edge Group’s broader strategy to diversify its defence technology portfolio beyond its home region.

By integrating Akaer’s expertise in UAV systems, the company aims to enhance its product offerings and capture growth opportunities in the rapidly evolving unmanned systems sector.

The move also signals a deeper commitment to the Brazilian market, where demand for advanced defence solutions is rising.

Akaer, listed on the B3 stock exchange under the ticker EMBJ3.SA, has long been a significant player in Brazil’s defence industry, known for its work on military aircraft and unmanned systems.
